American billionaire Bill Ackman donated 99 999 USD to the man who managed to disarm one of the attackers during the Sydney shooting. Bloomberg reported this on December 14, noting that Ackman became the largest donor to the GoFundMe page created in support of the hero.
According to the publication, the total amount of donations has already exceeded 170 thousand USD. The funds are being collected for a passerby who, risking his life, intervened in the attack and deprived one of the terrorists of a weapon.
A shooting occurred on December 14 near Bondi Beach in Sydney during an event celebrating the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah. Gunmen opened fire, killing 12 people and injuring 29 others. One of the attackers was shot dead, the second received medical treatment, and the third surrendered to police.
It was later revealed that the man who disarmed one of the terrorists was fruit store owner Ahmed Al-Ahmed. He suffered two bullet wounds and is currently in the hospital.
