High-level meetings during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's upcoming visit to Turkmenistan will accelerate the development of comprehensive relations between Tehran and Ashgabat, according to Iranian Ambassador Ali Mojtaba Rouzbehani, quoted by the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper.
At Turkmenistan's initiative, the United Nations declared 2025 the "International Year of Peace and Trust." As part of this initiative, the Government of Turkmenistan has planned a number of international events, including an International Forum to be held on December 12. The Forum will highlight Turkmenistan's role in peace diplomacy and strengthen its position of positive neutrality, as well as provide opportunities for regional dialogue on security, economic cooperation, and confidence-building. The Islamic Republic of Iran will actively participate in this Forum at the highest level and reaffirm its support for Turkmenistan's neutrality. "I would like to express hope that the meetings between the leaders of the two countries during the upcoming visit of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Turkmenistan will further accelerate the development of comprehensive relations between Iran and Turkmenistan," the diplomat said.
Rouzbehani noted that Turkmenistan's policy of positive neutrality is a key pillar of the country's foreign policy and is viewed by Iran as a key factor in ensuring border security, energy cooperation, and regional stability. Since Turkmenistan declared its neutrality, the Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently supported this policy and views the friendship between Tehran and Ashgabat as a factor in joint development.
The ambassador emphasized that, from Iran's perspective, Turkmenistan's policy of neutrality is a strategic choice that positively impacts regional stability. Support for this policy demonstrates the two countries' aligned interests in security and economic matters and creates the foundation for developing sustainable cooperation.
