Head coach of the Turkmenistan national football team Rovshan Meredov stated that he does not single out any individual players and considers all the called-up players to be of equal value.
"We don't have a starting lineup. We have a starting lineup, and then there are guys who can substitute. If 23 players are called up, those 23 players deserve to play in the starting lineup," Meredov said at a press conference after the 3-1 victory over Chinese Taipei.
The head coach praised the players who came on as substitutes in the match. Arkadag's 23-year-old striker, Bayram Atayev, made his debut for the national team, appearing on the field in the 79th minute. "I think it was a good debut," Meredov said, assessing the forward's performance.
25-year-old striker Meylis Diniev, who plays for Kyrgyz club Kyrgyzaltyn, came on as a substitute in the 70th minute and scored his first goal for the Turkmenistan national team in the 79th. "Diniev came on, he did what he had to do, he came on and strengthened the team," the coach emphasized.
Meredov used all five available substitutions in the match, playing amid a serious personnel crisis. Before the game, the head coach announced serious injuries to Shanazar Tirkishov, Altymurat Annadurdyyev, Yhlas Saparmammedov, Abdy Bashimov, as well as Kakageldy Berdyev and Hojageldy Hojovov, who had to be substituted after being called up to the national team. Yhlas Toyjanov is also injured.
"We called up experienced players like Zafar Babajanov and Alibek Abdurakhmanov, who haven't been called up in a while. Bayram Atayev from Arkadag was called up to the national team for the first time," Meredov said before the match.
"Every player comes out, plays in the national team uniform, and is obligated to give their all. If they've been called up, it means they're currently the best in the coaching staff's opinion and are obligated to give 100 percent," the head coach concluded.
The victory over Chinese Taipei allowed the Turkmenistan national team to maintain its lead in group D of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers with 12 points, ahead of Thailand on additional indicators.
