A groundbreaking ceremony for the 207-kilometer Turkmenbashy-Garabogaz highway took place in Turkmenistan's Balkan velayat, according to the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper.
The highway begins in the coastal district of Turkmenbashy in the Balkan velayat, where a celebratory event was held to mark the laying of the foundation stone, featuring cultural and artistic figures from the velayat.
The construction was entrusted to road workers from the Altyn nesil business entity. The company's specialists assured that they would complete the project on schedule. All the necessary conditions have been created for the project's implementation: crushed stone and gravel are mined from a local quarry, and road bitumen is produced at the Turkmenbashy oil processing complex.
According to the project, the highway will be two-way and 21 meters wide. The asphalt surface and technical and operational characteristics meet international standards.
Construction is planned in two phases: Turkmenbashy-Garabogaz and Garabogaz-Serkhetyaka (Kazakhstan). Upon completion of the second phase, the road will open a transport corridor to neighboring countries in the region, the publication notes.
