The Western press has speculated that the first nuclear tests by the US and USSR may have attracted the attention of extraterrestrial civilizations. According to the Daily Mail, Dr. Beatriz Villarroel of the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics in Sweden studied archival images from the California Observatory and discovered up to 100 thousand bright flashes recorded in the sky between 1949 and 1957.
According to the researcher, the glow was not natural in origin and defied scientific explanation. Villarroel suggested that the anomalies could have been the result of extraterrestrial intelligence observing human activity during the Cold War and its extensive nuclear testing.
