Turkmenistan is developing modern transport infrastructure to transform the country into a hub for East-West and North-South transport, said Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan Babaniyaz Yalakov.
"One of Turkmenistan's investment development priorities is improving modern transport and logistics infrastructure, transforming our country into a hub for East-West and North-South transport links," Yalakov said during the Days of Turkmenistan's Economy in Germany.
He noted that the country is located at the intersection of several interregional trade routes, which facilitates the entry of domestic producers into new foreign markets.
According to Yalakov, Turkmenistan has a well-developed air transport network with seven international airports and promising rail routes, including the TRACECA transit corridor. The country is located on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, linking Europe and China, and is also part of the North-South Transport Corridor and the Lapis Lazuli Corridor, connecting Afghanistan with Türkiye.
The Deputy Minister reported that the country's road transport system has been significantly modernized. Construction of the third phase of the Ashgabat-Turkmenabad highway is scheduled for completion this year, connecting Turkmenistan with Uzbekistan. The Turkmenbashy International Seaport, with its developed infrastructure, has improved access to global shipping routes and increased maritime traffic.
Yalakov also noted that Turkmenistan continues to actively work toward WTO accession. Particular attention is being paid to finalizing the Memorandum on Foreign Trade Regime and the phased implementation of WTO standards and rules in close collaboration with the organization's secretariat.
The Turkmenistan Economy Days are taking place on October 30-31 in Frankfurt am Main. The event is organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan in collaboration with TMT Consulting Group.
