A delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmed Gurbanov visited Baghdad, Republic of Iraq, from October 20 to 21.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries took place during the visit. The parties exchanged views on the development of political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation, as well as key areas of the bilateral agenda.
In the context of the importance of high-level contacts, issues related to the holding of an International Conference in Ashgabat in December of this year dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality were discussed.
Having discussed issues of expanding the legal framework for cooperation, as well as the importance of creating parliamentary friendship groups and strengthening interparliamentary ties, the parties confirmed that the friendly and cooperative relations between Turkmenistan and Iraq are based on the principles of mutual respect, trust, and equality.
During his visit to Baghdad, Akhmet Gurbanov also held talks with Abdul Razzaq Al-Zuhairi, President of the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce. The parties discussed the development of trade and economic relations, noting the significant prospects for their expansion. The parties emphasized the importance of establishing contacts between the business communities of the two countries, as well as the active participation of Turkmen and Iraqi delegations in international economic forums, exhibitions, and business meetings held in both countries.
