Turkmen gas exports to Europe have potential, but require the development of not only industrial but also political cooperation. This was announced to journalists by International Gas Union President Andrea Steiger on the sidelines of the pre-conference session of the International Conference and Exhibition "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan 2025" (OGT 2025).
"I remember previous discussions and negotiations between the European Union and Turkmenistan regarding Turkmen gas supplies to Europe. And I believe there are prospects here," said Steiger. He added that developing supplies relies not only on industry but also on political cooperation, which needs to be strengthened.
The head of the IGU emphasized the importance of diversifying energy sources for Europe. "I'm Italian, I'm European, and I also believe that diversifying sources is important for Europe," he noted. Stager added that his experience tells him that "energy opens doors rather than closes them."
The President of the International Gas Union called Turkmenistan's gas resources a vital asset for the future and a factor in regional integration. "Turkmenistan possesses vast natural gas reserves, which provide energy for the country's growing population and are a strong factor in regional integration," he said, commenting on the prospects of the Galkynysh field. According to Steiger, potential projects for further interaction and cooperation already exist.
From October 22 to 24, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan in Ashgabat will host the 30th International Conference and Exhibition "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – OGT 2025." The forum is organized by the state-owned concerns “Turkmengaz” and “Turkmennebit”, and the State Concern “Turkmengeologiya”, with the support of the Turkmen Energy Forum. The OGT EXPO 2025 exhibition, where more than 100 companies from 70 countries will present the latest technologies and equipment for the energy industry, will also be held concurrently.
