A new large gold deposit with reserves exceeding 40 tons has been discovered in Gansu Province in northwest China, the provincial natural resources administration announced. The deposit is located in the city of Yumen, and experts estimate its resources are equivalent to those of two medium-sized gold deposits.
The discovery was made using modern geochemical exploration methods, providing valuable practical information for gold prospecting in similar regions. It became part of China's national strategy to expand its mineral resource base and strengthen its gold mining industry. Earlier in January 2025, the China Geological Survey reported the discovery of 168 tons of gold in other regions of the country, including Inner Mongolia and Heilongjiang.
New gold reserves in Gansu could significantly enhance the region's economic potential and provide additional support for the national strategy for sustainable mineral resource development.
