The capital of Kyrgyzstan is considering launching a tram network as a way to address traffic congestion. The proposal was voiced at a meeting between city residents and municipal officials, MIR 24 reports.
The meeting focused on the city's transportation situation and ways to alleviate congestion. Participants proposed various solutions, from developing bicycle infrastructure to installing dedicated parking spaces at public transport stops.
Bishkek City Hall prioritizes the development of public transportation. According to Mayor Aibek Dzhunushaliev, the launch of trams will allow for more passenger traffic and provide transportation links to the capital's outlying areas.
Traffic congestion remains one of the most pressing issues in Bishkek. The growing number of cars and inadequate road infrastructure lead to regular gridlock, especially during rush hour.
