Turkmenistan will approach its chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2026 with full responsibility, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov stated at a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State in Dushanbe.
"We view this as a sign of respect and trust in Turkmenistan on the part of all participating states, and recognition of our country's contribution to the development of the Commonwealth of Independent States. We will approach our chairmanship with the utmost responsibility, fully understanding the scale and scope of the challenges we must address together," he said.
The head of state noted that a concept for Turkmenistan's chairmanship of the CIS will be developed in the near future. "The document will be sent to CIS countries in a timely manner through diplomatic channels," Serdar Berdimuhamedov added.
The chairmanship of the CIS bodies will pass from Tajikistan to Turkmenistan on January 1, 2026. The next meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State will be held on October 9, 2026, in Ashgabat.
