Turkmen Greco-Roman wrestler Aslan Agadayev won a bronze medal in the 110 kg weight class at the III CIS Games in Azerbaijan. This is the second award for the Turkmen team at the tournament.
In a competition involving five athletes, Agadayev defeated Azerbaijani Rauf Mutallimov (2-0) in his opening bout, then lost to eventual winner Dmitry Kochurov of Russia (0-3). In his third bout, the Turkmen wrestler convincingly defeated Belarusian Daniil Maslakov (3-0), but lost to Uzbekistan's Saidamir Nematov (1-5), ultimately finishing third.
Boxer Hangeldy Lukmanov won Turkmenistan's first medal at the tournament in the 52 kg weight category.
The competition is taking place in seven cities across Azerbaijan: Ganja, Yevlakh, Mingachevir, Gabala, Sheki, Goygol, and Khankendi. A total of 1,624 athletes under 23 years of age from 13 countries are participating, competing in 246 medal events across 23 disciplines until October 8.
The delegation of Turkmenistan is represented by 56 people, including 36 athletes competing in 3x3 basketball, boxing, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, karate, swimming, shooting, and taekwondo.
With two bronze medals, the Turkmenistan team ranks eighth in the overall team standings, ahead of Pakistan, Türkiye, Cuba, Kuwait and Oman.
At the previous CIS Games in 2023 in Belarus, the Turkmenistan team, consisting of 79 athletes, won three silver and 15 bronze medals.
