Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The two sides discussed cooperation in the energy and transportation sectors, the Azerbaijani leader's press service reported.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov conveyed greetings from Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Aliyev. The Azerbaijani President thanked him for the greetings and asked him to convey his own greetings to his Turkmen counterpart.
The parties noted with satisfaction the regularity of meetings between the leadership of the two countries, including Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's visit to Azerbaijan in July 2025. Particular attention was paid to the importance of the upcoming 12th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States (OTG) in Gabala and its role in deepening cooperation between the Turkic states.
During the conversation, the current level of Azerbaijani-Turkmen relations, based on the principles of brotherhood, good-neighborliness, and cooperation, was highly praised. The successful development of ties in the political, economic, transport, energy, interparliamentary, humanitarian, and cultural spheres, as well as fruitful cooperation within international organizations, were emphasized.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov arrived in Azerbaijan to participate in the 12th Joint Territorial Community (JTC) Summit, which is taking place on Tuesday in Gabala. The summit's theme is "Regional Peace and Security." The organization comprises Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye, and Uzbekistan. Hungary and Turkmenistan hold observer status. The JTC headquarters are in Istanbul.
