Uzbekistan has begun preparations for the transition to a 12-year school education system. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Preschool and School Education Sardor Rajabov in an interview with the “Uzbekistan 24” TV channel.
The reform envisages the inclusion of a preparatory year for 6-year-old children in the school education structure. The aim of the changes is to bring the national education system into line with international standards.
According to the deputy minister, the new system will allow Uzbek graduates to enroll in foreign universities directly, bypassing one-year preparatory courses. Currently, about 15 thousand graduates are forced to undergo additional training abroad each year.
According to the analysis, 85% of countries with the best results in the international PISA 2022 study have 12 years of school education.
The new education structure will include one year of preparatory stage and four years of primary education, five years of basic general secondary education and two years of general secondary education. To implement the reform, amendments will be made to the laws "On Education" and "On Preschool Education and Upbringing".
