In the remaining months of 2025, observers will be able to see three supermoons and two total lunar eclipses, astronomers report, providing a calendar of upcoming celestial events.
The first supermoon is expected on October 7, the so-called "Harvest Moon", which is traditionally observed in the fall. The next astronomical event is scheduled for November 5, when the largest supermoon of the year, called the "Hunter's Moon", will occur.
The 2025 supermoon series will be completed by the “Cold Moon”, which will be visible on December 4. This phenomenon got its name from the time of year when it occurs.
A supermoon is an astronomical phenomenon in which the full moon coincides with the moment of closest approach of the Earth's satellite to our planet. As a result, the Moon appears larger and brighter than usual.
In addition to supermoons, this year there are also expected to be two total lunar eclipses, the exact dates of which experts will specify additionally.
Astronomers recommend that lovers of observing celestial bodies mark the specified dates in advance so as not to miss these rare natural phenomena. The best conditions for observation are in clear weather away from artificial light sources.
