The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Turkmenistan organized a ceremonial round table dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese people in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggressors and the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War.
Within the framework of the event, a thematic photo exhibition dedicated to the events of the resistance war was organized.
The event opened with a screening of the documentary film "Sacrifice, Struggle, Memory: A Look at the Eastern Front of World War II," which reminded participants of the cruelty of war and the value of peace.
In his speech, the Ambassador of China to Turkmenistan Ji Shumin noted that all those present are witnesses and active participants in the friendly relations between China and Turkmenistan. The diplomat emphasized the special significance of Turkmenistan's neutral status:
"Turkmenistan, recognized by the UN and the international community as a permanently neutral state, has been pursuing a neutral foreign policy for 30 years. This commitment to peace and development is fully consistent with the peace-loving traditions of the Chinese people."
The Chinese Ambassador emphasized the historical significance of the date being celebrated, noting that “the world anti-fascist war is a great struggle in which justice triumphs over evil, light triumphs over darkness, and progressive forces triumph over reactionary forces.”
According to him, the Chinese People's War of Resistance opened the eastern front of the world anti-fascist war and became an important part of World War II. From September 18, 1931 until Japan's surrender in September 1945, the Chinese people put up staunch resistance to Japanese fascism. As a result, more than 1,5 million Japanese troops were destroyed, accounting for more than 70% of all losses of the Japanese army in World War II.
The Chinese people suffered enormous losses, with more than 35 million military and civilian casualties and economic losses exceeding $1 trillion. The Chinese Communist Party organized and inspired the nationwide struggle, playing a decisive role in uniting the Chinese people to achieve victory.
As the ambassador noted, the greatest lesson of the victory is the need to follow the path of peaceful development.
"Today we remember this great victory not only to honor the memory, but also to work together with other countries to defend the peace achieved," the diplomat said.
Representatives from various spheres of society took part in the round table: Hero of Turkmenistan, responsible secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO Chinar Rustemova, chairman of the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan Ata Serdarov, chairman of the Agrarian Party of Turkmenistan Akmammet Akmammedov, chairman of the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan Saparmurat Ovganov and others.
The round table was also attended by representatives of veterans' organizations, Chinese enterprises, Chinese language teachers and Chinese students in Turkmenistan.
The event ended with a call for building an even closer community of shared destiny for humanity and continuing friendly cooperation between the peoples of the two countries.
