From August 18 to 20, Tashkent hosted the Central Asian Kyokushinkai Karate Cup, where the Turkmenistan national team demonstrated excellent results.
Turkmen athletes won a total of 24 medals: 6 gold, 4 silver and 14 bronze. Young karatekas performed especially well in the kumite discipline.
Six Turkmen athletes won gold medals. Meylis Pashakuliyev became the champion in the +18 age group in the +80 kg category. Medina Danatarova won among 14-15-year-old athletes in the up to 60 kg category. Gulshirin Orazmuradova won gold in the +18 age group in the +65 kg category, and Ayimjan Sultanova - in the same age group in the up to 65 kg category. Suleyman Agamemdov became the champion among 16-17-year-olds in the up to 60 kg category, and Seyran Potarov won in the +45 age group in the up to 85 kg category.
Four Turkmen karatekas won silver medals: Kumush Genjeeva (12-13 years old, up to 45 kg), Shazada Mengliyeva (16-17 years old, up to 45 kg), Aynur Nurjanova (14-15 years old, up to 50 kg) and Alimerdan Iskanderov (6-7 years old, up to 25 kg).
The competition was attended by about 550 athletes from eight countries: Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Bahrain and Kuwait.
The Turkmen team was represented by karatekas from various educational institutions of the country, including schools in Ashgabat, Ahal, Mary and Dashoguz velayats, as well as students from higher educational institutions.
