Turkmen tennis players won four gold and one bronze medal at the international tournament among juniors under 14 years old, which was held in the Thai province of Nonthaburi (Greater Bangkok).
The competition was held under the auspices of the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) with the participation of athletes from 12 countries - Australia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, China, the Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Thailand, Turkmenistan and Sri Lanka.
As reported by the online newspaper "Golden Age", 13-year-old Ali Geldiyev brought the team two gold medals - in singles and in doubles in a duet with Kerimgeldi Guldurdiyev. The third gold medal for Turkmenistan was won by 13-year-old Aylara Kakabayeva (fourth seed), who won in the women's singles.
The team won the bronze medal by defeating Hong Kong representative Lam Cheuk in the match for third place with a score of 4:1, 3:5, 4:1.
ATF President Yuri Polsky, who visited Turkmenistan on a short visit last year, praised the work of the national tennis federation. As an example, he cited the success of the Turkmenistan boys' team at the Central Asian U12 Championship in 2023, when the athletes beat the Uzbekistan team for the first time and reached the final stage in Astana. This year, the women's team achieved similar success at the Central Asian Championship in Fergana, winning the right to compete for the first time in the Asian U12 Team Championship in Singapore.
In addition, Turkmen tennis player Ilima Huseynova recently reached the semi-finals of the preliminary round of the Roland Garros junior qualifying tournament among athletes under 16 years of age from Western and Central Asian countries in Almaty.
