In Turkmenistan, for the first time, a selective dorsal rhizotomy operation was successfully performed to treat cerebral palsy in children. The intervention was carried out at the International Traumatology Center in Ashgabat with the participation of a German specialist, the newspaper "Turkmenistan" reports.
The operation was performed by Professor Maximilian Boschik Bronek, head of the spinal surgery department at the orthopedic clinic in Aschau (Germany), together with local doctors. The patient was a 10-year-old resident of Ashgabat suffering from cerebral palsy with spastic tetraparesis.
The German surgeon was in Turkmenistan on a working visit, during which he examined patients together with his Turkmen colleagues and participated in surgical operations. The specialist shared his experience of effectively introducing new surgical treatment methods into practical healthcare in Turkmenistan.
As a result of the cooperation, highly accurate diagnostic and surgical interventions were performed for spinal injuries, compression, congenital diseases, neoplasms and degenerative pathologies in children and adults.
According to the publication, the child's postoperative condition is assessed as satisfactory.
