Russian President Vladimir Putin responded positively to the intention of the Laotian leadership to present a pair of elephants as a gift on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries, TASS reports.
"The elephant is a symbol of our country, the country of a million elephants, a symbol of peace and prosperity," said Thongloun Sisoulith, President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, during the talks. The animals will be housed in the St. Petersburg Zoo, and transportation is planned for the near future.
“They will come in handy around the house, thank you!” the Russian leader replied.
