18-year-old Turkmen wrestler Alp Arslan Begenjov won a bronze medal in the 79 kg weight category at the Asian Junior Freestyle Wrestling Championships in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) among athletes under 20 years of age.
In the match for third place, the Turkmen athlete won a confident victory over the representative of Uzbekistan, Jorullo Abdufattohov, with a score of 12:1.
In the quarterfinals of the tournament, Begenjov met with Indian wrestler Amit Amit. The Turkmen athlete confidently controlled the course of the fight, leading on technical points with a score of 6:3 by the end of the second period. However, at the 2nd minute 47th second, the Indian wrestler made an effective move and achieved a pin, pinning his opponent to the mat with his shoulder blades. Despite the advantage in points, Begenjov lost early and lost the right to fight for the final.
Earlier this June, at the Asian Youth Championships (under 23) in Vietnam, Begenjov won a silver medal in the 79 kg weight category.
Let us remind that Alp Arslan Begenjov is the first Turkmen wrestler in history to win a gold medal at the World Youth Championship in freestyle wrestling among athletes under 20 years old. The tournament was held in September 2024 in Pontevedra, Spain.
