President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent congratulations to Hero of Turkmenistan, test cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko on his birthday. This was reported by the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.
“Taking advantage of this pleasant opportunity, the President of Turkmenistan expressed to Oleg Kononenko heartfelt wishes for good health, longevity, happiness and family well-being, as well as new successes in the work on the exploration of outer space,” the statement said.
Kononenko holds the position of deputy head of the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center – commander of the cosmonaut detachment. The cosmonaut holds the world record for the total duration of stay in space – he was the first in history to surpass the 1000-day mark, and his total flight time currently stands at 1111 days.
In 2019, Kononenko was awarded the title Hero of Turkmenistan. Oleg Kononenko was born on June 21, 1964 in the city of Chardzhou (modern name Turkmenabad) of the Turkmen SSR.
