Indian Tea Festival Held in Ashgabat

The capital of Turkmenistan hosted an Indian tea festival dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the famous Assam tea. The Indian Embassy in Turkmenistan organized the event.

The Ambassador of India to Turkmenistan Madhumita Hazarika Bhagat attended the festival, representatives of international organizations, the diplomatic corps, ministries and cultural institutions accredited in the country, as well as the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.

As Ambassador Bhagat said at the event, India ranks second in the world in tea production and third in its export. The volume of the Indian tea market in 2024 amounted to 11.5 billion US dollars. At the same time, 80% of the tea produced in the country is consumed on the domestic market.

The Ambassador emphasized that tea in India is not just a drink, but a symbol of hospitality and social ties. Masala tea, which is prepared with the addition of milk, sugar and spices, including cardamom and ginger, occupies a special place in Indian culture.

As part of the festival, guests were able to get acquainted with various types of Indian tea, taste national cuisine and enjoy a program of traditional dances and cultural performances.
