A regional climate technology center for Central Asian countries may be opened in Ashgabat by the end of this year. This was stated today at a round table meeting on the eve of the International Scientific and Practical Conference TESC 2025 by Magtymguly Akmuradov, climate adviser to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. As explained by Magtymguly Akmuradov, the main idea of the center is to find and attract new technologies for the adaptation of agriculture and water management in the conditions of a changing climate. Central Asia faces serious problems, such as the reduction of water resources. There is a significant and accelerating melting of glaciers that feed the region. This emphasizes the urgent need for new technologies for the rational use of water and adaptation to changing conditions.

The center will be financed in stages. The first three years will be fully financed by the government of Turkmenistan, which was confirmed at a high level. In the future, it is planned to switch to an independent financing system at the expense of various funds. Already now, there is significant interest from international funds, including "green" and climate funds, ready to contribute to the preparation and opening of the center.

The center will facilitate the free transfer of technologies to Central Asian countries.

As it develops, the center is expected to become a key element in the transition of Central Asian countries to “green” energy and ensuring sustainable development in the region, the source notes.
