The term's popularity increased significantly after the release of the album of the same name by British singer Charli XCX. Researchers note that the word has become a real cultural phenomenon, symbolizing frivolity and inconstancy in modern society.

For example, in 2023, American lexicographers chose authentic as the word of the year, which was associated with the development of artificial intelligence and discussions about identity on social media. In 2022, this title was awarded to the term “gaslighting”, in 2021 – “vaccine”, and in 2020 – “pandemic”.
