In the Republic of South Africa, a court has handed down a harsh sentence to 49 years old Daniel Mthimkhulu, a former engineer for the state railway company. The man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for providing false information in a resume when applying for a job, “MIR 24” reports with reference to 360.

Mthimkhulu listed on his CV a degree from the prestigious University of the Witwatersrand, a dissertation and several advanced training certificates. On the basis of these credentials, he was hired as a chief engineer, where he worked for five years, earning about R15 million (approximately 840 thousand USD) during that time.

The fraud was uncovered in 2015, and a lengthy investigation began. It was discovered that Mthimkhulu had only a high school education, and no higher education or academic degrees. The trial ended in 2024 with a guilty verdict.
