Ford Motor Company has found itself in a difficult financial situation related to the production of electric vehicles. According to the latest data, each electric car produced costs the company a loss of up to 100 000 USD. This figure significantly exceeds initial forecasts and forces Ford to radically revise its strategy in the field of electric transport. This is reported by Ferra.ru with reference to Bloomberg.
To reduce the growing losses, the company has already taken a number of measures. In particular, Ford is reducing orders from key battery suppliers such as SK On, LG Energy Solution and CATL. In addition, the company plans to significantly reduce costs, slow the pace of production of new electric vehicles and reduce prices of existing models. Plans to build new battery factories are also in question.
Despite the measures taken, financial analysts predict that Ford's losses in the electric vehicle sector in 2024 could reach 5,5 billion USD.
The main reason for such serious financial difficulties was a sharp decline in prices for electric vehicles and a drop in demand for them. As a result, the cost of producing one electric car exceeded the revenue from its sale.
