The Spanish national team defeated the English team with a score of 2:1 in the final match of the European Football Championship in Berlin. Nico Williams (47th minute) and Mikel Oyarzabal (86th minute) scored among the winners. Cole Palmer (73) scored for the losers.
Spain became European champion for the fourth time (1964, 2008, 2012, 2024), setting a record for the number of victories at European championships. Previously, they shared this figure with Germany (3 titles).
It was England's second consecutive Euro final defeat after losing to Italy in 2021. The British still have never won the European Championship.
At the group stage, the Spanish team played in Quartet B, winning three victories in three matches – over the teams of Croatia (3:0), Italy (1:0) and Albania (1:0). In the playoffs, Spain beat the teams of Georgia (4:1), Germany (2:1 after extra time) and France (2:1).
The 2024 European Championships took place in Germany. The previous winner, the Italian team, was eliminated at the 1/8 final stage, losing to Switzerland (0:2).
