Timberlake's song, released recently, is the first single from his new album Everything I Thought It Was. It immediately topped the Apple Music and iTunes charts in the US.
In response, Spears' fans began purchasing and listening to her song "Selfish" from the bonus version of her 2011 album Femme Fatale. As a result, it rose to number four on the US Apple Music chart and number two on iTunes. In addition, the song topped the charts in Italy, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, Chile and Mexico, and it is also seventh on the chart in Armenia.
Spears herself doesn't seem interested in competing with Timberlake. In a recent interview, she stated that she has no plans to release any more songs.
