One of the most dynamically developing sectors of the economy of Turkmenistan in 2023 was the transport complex. Over the 11 months of 2023, a significant increase in the volume of work and services was noted in this area - by 21.3%.

According to the publication vestiabad.ru, cargo transportation volumes increased by 3.9%, passenger transportation by 5.1%. All sectors showed high growth rates: railway transport - 6.5%, road transport - 17%, air transport - almost 2 times, sea and river transport - 5.2%.

Road transport plays a leading role in cargo transportation over short and medium distances. Its share in the total cargo turnover is 49.4%, passenger turnover – 84.7%. The Turkmenavtoulaglary agency increased the volume of cargo transportation by 2.9%, passengers by 5%, and transport services by 16.5%.

The vehicle fleet is regularly updated through the acquisition of modern buses, cars and trucks.

Rail transport plays a leading role in the transportation of goods over long distances and large-sized cargo. The Turkmendemiryollary Agency increased the volume of cargo transportation by 6%, passengers by 3 times, and transport services by 5.8%.

In recent years, new railway lines have been put into operation, which has increased the country's transit potential. The renewal of rolling stock with Russian and Chinese cars and locomotives continues.

Air transport demonstrates high growth rates. The Turkmenhowayollary Agency increased passenger transportation by 128%, cargo transportation by 56%, and the volume of transport services by more than 2 times.

Construction and reconstruction of airports throughout the country continues. The fleet is regularly updated with Boeing and Airbus aircraft. New routes are opening to Europe and Asia.

In sea and river transport, there was an increase in cargo transportation by 19%, passenger transportation by 56%, and the volume of services by 4.2%.

The renewal of the merchant and passenger fleet continues. New ships are being built at the shipyard in Turkmenbashy. Container transportation through the port of Turkmenbashy is growing. Thus, in the field of transport, Turkmenistan demonstrates high dynamics of infrastructure development.
