Shanghai-based Chinese company CellX has launched a pilot production of artificial meat, writes the South China Morning Post.

The meat will be grown in a 2 000-liter bioreactor. If successful, production is planned to be expanded, and in the future, the cost of artificial meat can be reduced to less than $ 100 per kilogram.

Representatives of the company intend to apply to the US and Singapore to arrange the supply of artificial meat to these countries (currently, the sale of artificial meat is allowed only in Singapore and the USA).

The purpose of opening a plant for the production of artificial meat is to ensure the food security of 1,4 billion people through alternative animal protein.
