Iran became a full member of the SCO

Iran joined the ranks of full members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). This decision was made at a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO. This is stated in the New Delhi Declaration, adopted as a result of the summit.

The declaration notes that the member states attach historical importance to the accession of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the SCO as a full member.

Iran previously signed a Memorandum of Commitment to become a member state of the SCO at the previous summit in Samarkand in September 2022. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani noted that Iran's entry into the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as a full member would serve the interests of all parties.

At the moment, full members of the SCO are India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
