President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin proposed to return to the traditional period of study in universities of 4-6 years. The head of state stated this while addressing the Federal Assembly, reports “MIR 24”.

“Serious changes are overdue in higher education, a synthesis of the best practices of the Soviet era and the experience of recent decades is needed”, - he said.

Putin noted that the transition to a new system of education in universities should be smooth, “it is necessary to think through everything to the smallest detail”.

“Narrow specialists after basic education at the university will be able to continue their education in the magistracy and residency. Students who are currently studying at universities will continue their education according to existing programs, the diplomas they receive will be legitimate”, - noted the President of the Russian Federation.
