At the “Literary Fund” auction in Moscow, a photograph of Georges Dantes, taken in 1865, was sold for 340 thousand rubles (with a starting price of 90 thousand), reports “Komsomolskaya Pravda”.

Georges Dantes is known to fans of Russian classical literature and Pushkin's work as the killer of the great Russian poet. It was he who was his rival in the fatal duel that ended in Pushkin's mortal wound.


Dantes was married to the sister of Pushkin's wife, Natalya Goncharova. After the duel, he was forced to leave Russia for France.
