To accelerate the implementation of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India international gas pipeline project and build new plants for processing hydrocarbon raw materials were instructed by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The corresponding instruction were given to Shahym Abdrakhmanov, the Vice-Premier of the Government overseeing oil-gas industry, during the extended meeting of the Government held on Monday.

The Head of Turkmenistan also instructed the Vice-Premier to use the production capacity of the oil and gas complex effectively. The importance of discovering new deposits of hydrocarbon resources by strengthening the material and technical base of the industry and the introduction of modern technologies was also noted.

“It is necessary to carry out deep processing of oil and natural gas, increase the volume of production in order to use the full capacity and ensure the uninterrupted work of the fuel-energy complex enterprises, underlined the head of state, by giving instruction on accelerating the implementation of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project and build new plants for hydrocarbons processing”, says the official material published today in the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper.

The Vice-Premier was also charged to analyze the situation in the supervised sphere and to take all measures to properly organize work of subordinate structures.

The TAPI gas pipeline with a length of 1,814 kilometers and a capacity of 33 billion cubic meters of gas per year should run from the Turkmen Galkynysh field through the Afghan cities of Herat and Kandahar, Pakistani Quetta and Multan to the city of Fazilka in western India. Construction began on the Turkmen section in December 2015, and the Afghan section of the gas pipeline was laid in February 2018.

The total cost of the project is estimated at 8-10 billion US dollars.
