In October 2020, UNICEF and the Government of Turkmenistan signed a five-year Plan for the Procurement of Vaccines and Vaccination Equipment worth 83 million USD.
Vaccines, procured by UNICEF on behalf of the Government of Turkmenistan in accordance with the Plan for 2021-2025 protect children from 14 infectious diseases and ensure the continuity of the immunization program in Turkmenistan.
Azat Ovezov, head of the Center for Public Health and Nutrition of Turkmenistan, told about this in the pages of the “Turkmenistan” newspaper dated August 9, 2022.
Here is a complete list of 14 infectious diseases, the prevention of which is included in the national routine immunization calendar - viral hepatitis B, tuberculosis, polio, diphtheria, tetanus, mumps, measles, whooping cough, rubella, Hib infection, human papillomavirus, pneumococcal infection, rotavirus, and viral hepatitis A.
According to Ovezov, all these vaccinations are provided free of charge for the population and permit citizens to be highly protected from contracting serious infectious diseases.
