A month-long training on preventing and countering violent extremism has been completed in Turkmenistan as part of the country component of the global project “Strengthening Resistance to violent Extremism in Asia (STRIVE Asia). Joint partnership of the EU and the UN”.
The training, organized by UNDP, was aimed at providing advisory and mentoring support to vulnerable youth to increase the resilience of local communities to violent extremism and radicalization.
The training was conducted by UNDP national trainers in 6 cities: Ashgabat, Dashoguz, Mary, Turkmenabat, Turkmenbashi and Tejen.
Specialists of the Youth Organization of Turkmenistan, the Union of Women, local employment departments of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of Turkmenistan, the local police, the municipality, as well as volunteers from six pilot cities actively participated in the trainings. As noted in the UNDP press release, all participants of the trainings are members of advisory groups that were formed in each pilot city within the framework of the project.
The participants received the necessary knowledge and skills in order to conduct the same trainings for other representatives of relevant government agencies and public organizations.
