For 11 months of 2021, private producers of Turkmenistan exported 51.314 tons of tomatoes for an amount exceeding 56 million US dollars. Such statistics are provided by the newspaper “Neutral Turkmenistan” with reference to the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET).
Greenhouse tomatoes have become one of the key export commodities of Turkmenistan. The main importing countries are Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, the United Arab Emirates. In 2021, Turkmen entrepreneurs sent more than 32 thousand tons of tomatoes to Moscow and the Moscow region, St. Petersburg and the Urals region, which ensured the fourth position in the ranking of suppliers of this crop to Russia, where some types of fruits are also supplied from Turkmenistan.
Turkmen entrepreneurs grow various fruitful varieties of tomatoes, including cherry, rugantino, and fulton tomatoes that have become very popular in the world.
Tomatoes in Turkmenistan are produced in greenhouse conditions all year round. Equipment for this is purchased mainly in European countries, and cultivation technologies are used the most advanced and proven to be highly effective.
In 2020, tomatoes in the amount of 35.4 thousand tons were exported outside Turkmenistan.
