On October 29th, the Ashgabat-Tejen roadway, as part of the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat highway, will be opened. This was announced during today's meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, the “Vatan” news program of the Turkmen television reported.

The construction of the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat highway, worth USD 2,3 billion, commenced on January 24th, 2019. The work is carried out by the closed joint-stock company “Türkmen Awtoban”. About 3,500 construction workers, more than 2,200 units of specialty machinery and vehicles are involved in the construction of the transport artery.

Constructed in three stages the highway Ashgabat-Turkmenabat will be 600 km long, with eight lanes (three main ones and one additional on each side of the highway). The width of the roadbed will be 35 meters.

Overall, a central traffic control station and 4 recreation areas, 4 stream crossings, 4 railway bridges, 22 bridges at intersections with other highways, 76 underground pedestrian crossings and a special passage for animals, water collectors over mudflow channels, interchanges and other objects are planned for construction, along with 10 stations for the required maintenance of the highway.

As previously reported, the project should be fully completed by 2023. It is expected that the highway, connecting the capital and the eastern region of Turkmenistan, will significantly increase the throughput of the country's road system, the quality and efficiency of logistics services, expand the international transport and transit infrastructure and trade and economic relations with neighboring states located along the Great Silk Road.
