The issues of cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan were discussed today at a meeting in Ashgabat between Presidents Emomali Rahmon and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the press service of the Tajik leader said.

As previously reported, the President of Tajikistan arrived in Turkmenistan on a state visit yesterday.

At the beginning of the meeting, Emomali Rahmon thanked Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the invitation to visit Turkmenistan, stating that Tajikistan stands for the comprehensive development of friendly relations with our country.

It was emphasized that over the years of independence, cooperation between the two countries has reached the level of strategic partnership.

During the talks, the leaders discussed a wide range of cooperation issues, including the regional and international agenda.

At the same time, they expressed confidence that mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries will continue to actively develop for the benefit of the fraternal peoples.

The heads of state spoke in favor of taking measures to implement the Intergovernmental Program of Trade and Economic Cooperation until 2023, the creation of a Roadmap for the growth of trade for the next two years, as well as wide use of opportunities

International seaport “Turkmenbashi” and the logistics center of Tajikistan for transit cargo in the interests of both countries.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the development of cooperation in the field of agriculture, the creation of joint agricultural enterprises, including in the field of crop and livestock production.

Another topic of the talks was the development of cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, including education, health care and the development of interregional ties, including between the Sughd region of Tajikistan and Ahal velayat of Turkmenistan.

Discussing international issues, the presidents of the two countries paid special attention to such regional threats as international terrorism, extremism, religious radicalism and transnational organized crime, including drug trafficking and the difficult situation in Afghanistan.

Upon completion of the talks, Emomali Rahmon invited President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to pay a return visit to Tajikistan at any time convenient for him.
