The national forest program 2013-2020 was adopted by the government of Turkmenistan in accordance with the national strategy of Turkmenistan on climate change in January 2013. This year, the results of its work will be summed up.

Since 2013, forest inventory and inventory management have been started, and since the adoption of the forest program, spontaneous planting has been transformed into a targeted, scientific-backed contribution of the state to the adaptation of the economy to the effects of climate change.

In addition to practical tree planting, scientific research was carried out. Botanical and forestry observations were carried out in the plant nurseries of state scientists, where the cultivation of medicinal and rare plants is practiced. The possibilities of phyto melioration of the coastal zone of reservoirs of the Turkmen lake "Altyn Asyr" were also studied. The area around the Botendag hill in the Turkmen Aral Sea was being greened.

To date, man-made plantings cover more than 100 thousand hectares and account for almost 70 million trees.

Since 1998, 3 million seedlings have been planted in the country annually, and 10 million seedlings will be planted in 2020, the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper reports.
