Turkmenistan to train specialists in "smart cities"

The Ministry of Communications of Turkmenistan intends to expand cooperation with domestic and foreign universities, scientific organizations, and companies to train specialists in the field of "smart cities," stated Deputy Minister of Communications Berdimyrat Berdyyev at the CIET-2026 international conference and exhibition in Ashgabat.

According to the deputy minister, special attention will be paid to the practical skills of future specialists in the fields of telecommunications, software, artificial intelligence, data analysis, cybersecurity, and automated control systems.

Within the framework of this cooperation, the agency plans to facilitate the exchange of expertise in areas such as digital construction, telecommunications, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, smart management, and cybersecurity. The initiative also includes the implementation of joint research and practical projects, as well as professional development opportunities for students and young specialists.

Berdyev noted that this will make it possible to train national specialists who meet international standards and are capable of designing, creating, implementing, and effectively managing "Smart City" and "Smart Home" systems.

As the Deputy Minister noted, Arkadag has become Turkmenistan’s first "smart city." A modern telecommunications infrastructure has been established there: fiber-optic communication lines have been extended to all residential buildings and facilities, with the implementation of GPON technology, IP television, high-speed internet, and advanced cellular communication systems. Within the framework of the "smart home" system, digital meters for electricity, gas, and water consumption have been installed, along with leak-detection sensors.

He also reminded that 5G in Arkadag was launched on June 29, 2025, and in October 2026, fifth generation communications began operating in the “Awaza” National Tourist Zone.

The conference "Development of the Construction, Industrial, Chemical, and Energy Sectors of Turkmenistan" is taking place in Ashgabat from November 3 to 5.
