The President of Turkmenistan has given his blessing for the opening of the Garabogaz–border zone highway

While on a working visit to Dashoguz, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov gave his blessing—via a live digital link—for the opening of the section between Garabogaz and the border zone, part of the Turkmenbashy–Garabogaz–Kazakhstan highway. This was reported by TDH.

The total length of this section, which serves as an important component of the International North–South Transport Corridor, is 44 kilometers. The roadway of this modern highway—built on a 27,5-meter-wide formation—consists of two lanes in each direction, each 9 meters wide. To ensure safety and optimize traffic flow, the design includes a 3,5-meter-wide median strip and 3-meter-wide shoulders on either side.

The highway was constructed in accordance with international standards. Its main carriageway consists of two 20-centimeter-thick layers of a coarse-grained gravel-sand mixture, a 10-centimeter-thick layer of a fine-grained gravel mixture, and several layers of hot-mix asphalt concrete—an 8-centimeter-thick porous layer, a 7-centimeter-thick coarse-grained layer, and a 5-centimeter-thick dense, fine-grained layer—all laid over a base of soil and a geotextile membrane.

On the median strip, a 15-centimeter-thick layer of crushed gravel mixture and a 10-centimeter-thick layer of hot, fine-grained asphalt concrete have been laid over the soil, ensuring the stability of the road infrastructure.

In his remarks at the opening ceremony, the head of Turkmenistan noted that the foundation for the Turkmenbashy–Garabogaz–Kazakhstan border highway was laid last year. Today, a 44-kilometer section of this road—stretching from Garabogaz to the border zone—is being put into operation. This transport infrastructure, which forms part of the North–South international transport corridor, will serve as a key link in transport routes of international significance.
