Today, in the city of Dashoguz, a groundbreaking ceremony for the Ashgabat–Dashoguz highway took place, with the participation of the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, reports TDH. The event was also attended by the Chairperson of the Mejlis, deputy prime ministers, heads of ministries and sectoral agencies, the hakim of the Dashoguz velayat, and numerous guests.
The total length of the motorway, which will begin at the Oguzhan fountain complex—a landmark that adorns the Turkmen capital—is 546 kilometers.
To ensure the stability of high-speed traffic, the road is divided into four sections and will be constructed based on advanced technical and economic specifications. The width of the roadbed for the first section—from the zero-point marker to the 9th kilometer—is 65 meters. This section comprises 8 lanes and includes pedestrian paths in both directions, as well as green zones and shoulders.
The width of the roadbed on the sections of the highway from kilometer 9 to 48 and from kilometer 527 to 546 is 34 meters, with the route comprising 6 traffic lanes in these areas. On the section between kilometers 48 and 527, the road width is 26,5 meters, and the route is divided into 4 traffic lanes. The highway is equipped with all the necessary amenities for the convenience of passengers and drivers.
In addition, the project includes the modernization of 9 existing bridges, as well as the construction of an 812-meter-long, 25-meter-wide two-lane vehicular bridge in the Naizalydepiz lowland, along with 2 kilometers of access roads. The route will also feature 136 modern, comfortable bus stops and 13 parking areas. At the same time, in order to ensure smooth and safe traffic flow, seven police road-supervision posts will be established, and modern video surveillance and speed-monitoring systems will be installed.
During the ceremony, the head of state made a commemorative entry to mark the laying of the foundation for the new highway. At the request of a representative of the younger generation—and to the applause of those present—the President placed a commemorative capsule into the road’s foundation and added the first shovelful of concrete, giving his blessing to the start of the highway’s construction.
