A list detailing Turkmenistan’s participation in the work of UN bodies and mechanisms in 2027 has been published

The Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN Headquarters in New York has published a list of Turkmenistan’s memberships and chairmanships within UN bodies and multilateral mechanisms for the year 2027.

The list compiles information regarding the duration of the country’s membership and its terms in the chair, reflecting the broad scope of its engagement within the UN system.

This involvement by Turkmenistan will encompass issues related to sustainable development, international trade, social policy, population, science, technology, and sports.

One of the key focus areas is Turkmenistan’s membership in the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the 2026–2028 term. This platform offers significant opportunities to foster international cooperation on economic, social, and environmental issues, and to advance the Sustainable Development Goals.

In 2027–2028, Turkmenistan will hold the chairmanship of the Group of Landlocked Developing Countries.

Another upcoming mandate is membership in the Commission on Science and Technology for Development, spanning the period from January 1, 2027, to December 31, 2030. This will expand Turkmenistan’s opportunities to participate in multilateral discussions on the role of science, technology, and innovation in fostering development.

The published list also includes the following powers that continue into 2027:

  • United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) – 2022–2028;

  • United Nations Commission on Population and Development – 2024–2028, until April 2028;

  • United Nations Commission for Social Development – 2025–2029;

  • UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport – 2023–2027, until November 2027.

Turkmenistan is also a permanent member of the Executive Committee of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Trade and Development Board of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The list also notes Turkmenistan’s permanent chairmanship of the Organizing Committee for the UN Friendship Games.
