A tree-planting ceremony, organized by the Embassy of India, took place in Ashgabat

The Embassy of India in Turkmenistan, in collaboration with the hakimlik of Ashgabat, organized a tree-planting ceremony. The event took place within the framework of the Indian campaign "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" ("Plant a tree in honor of your mother"), the diplomatic mission's press service reported.

The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of India to Turkmenistan, Bandaru Wilsonbabu, Deputy Mayor of Ashgabat Yazgeldy Bekmyradov, as well as representatives of the Indian diaspora and friends of India in Turkmenistan.

Speaking at the event, the ambassador highlighted "Mission LiFE" ("Lifestyle for Environment"). This global initiative, aimed at fostering a shift toward an environmentally responsible lifestyle, was introduced in 2021 by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In 2024, Modi launched the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" ("A Tree for Mother") campaign, which encourages every individual to plant at least one tree as a tribute to their own mother and to Mother Earth.

The ambassador also stated that India is prepared to work closely with the government of Turkmenistan to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, including in the areas of environmental protection and sustainable development.

The Deputy Mayor of Ashgabat noted that the ceremony reflects the long-standing ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries. He also expressed support for expanding engagement with India in the field of reforestation.

At the end of the event, participants were given saplings and invited to try some Indian snacks.
