Head of "Turkmenhimiya" calls deep gas processing a strategic objective

Resul Muradov, Chairman of the State Concern "Turkmenhimiya," spoke during a panel discussion titled "Monetization of Natural Gas, Development of Gas Chemistry, and Creation of High-Value-Added Products." The session took place on October 22, the second day of the international conference and exhibition "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2026" (OGT 2026).

Muradov noted that the global energy industry is undergoing significant structural changes. According to him, alongside the reliability of energy resource supplies, increasing importance is being placed on the efficient use of raw materials, the development of the oil, gas, and petrochemical sectors, the implementation of innovative technologies, and the production of competitive goods.

For Turkmenistan, which possesses significant natural gas reserves, the gas-chemical industry represents a promising avenue for diversification, he emphasized. In the speaker’s view, monetizing gas through deep processing, the creation of new production chains, and the expansion of finished-product output is of strategic importance for the country’s continued industrial development.

He explained that monetization entails deriving the maximum economic return from the use of gas. Simply supplying foreign markets is not enough; it is necessary to consistently transform hydrocarbon feedstock into products with a higher degree of processing. Gas can serve as a feedstock for synthetic motor fuels, polyethylene, polypropylene, methanol, ammonia, urea, and other chemical products. According to Muradov, this approach makes it possible to develop additional production chains, expand the product range, foster the growth of related industries, and create new export opportunities.

The chairman of the concern also spoke about the role of "Turkmenhimiya" in the production of mineral fertilizers, the processing of raw materials, the manufacturing of chemical products, and the expansion of the sector's export capabilities. The concern’s structure includes, among other facilities, a plant for producing gasoline from natural gas in the Ahal velayat, as well as enterprises that manufacture mineral fertilizers. These facilities represent various areas of the deep processing of hydrocarbon raw materials.

He specifically highlighted the development of nitrogen fertilizer production, including ammonia and urea. Expanding the output of these products, he noted, provides the agricultural sector with essential resources, strengthens food security, and creates a supply for export.

Muradov emphasized that the implementation of large-scale projects in the field of deep gas processing requires modern engineering solutions, significant investment, advanced technologies, and stable international partnerships. In his assessment, the experience of building a plant to produce gasoline from gas demonstrates the importance of international industrial cooperation in the implementation of complex technological projects.

As the speaker noted, cooperation with foreign companies can develop along several lines: the modernization of production facilities, the supply of advanced equipment, the implementation of digital management systems, the improvement of raw material processing technologies, and the development of downstream production stages. He also identified scientific and technical cooperation, the training of specialists, and the exchange of experience in the fields of industrial automation, energy efficiency, and environmental management as an important area of focus.

In conclusion, Muradov expressed interest in further strengthening international cooperation, attracting advanced technologies, implementing promising projects, and developing the chemical industry.
