Starting November 1, Türkiye will ban social media for children under 15

Turkish authorities have banned social media platforms from providing services to children under the age of 15. The ban will take effect on November 1, 2026. The relevant document was published in the official gazette, "Resmi Gazete", TASS reports.

Platforms will be required to create a separate mode with enhanced security and personal data protection measures for underage users over the age of 15.By default, such accounts must be private; they cannot be recommended to other users or synchronized with contact lists. Live streaming and personalized advertising will also be prohibited for "child" accounts.

In addition, social media platforms are required to implement parental control tools: settings for profiles, usage time, and geolocation, as well as payment management.

Users will be able to verify their age using a special identifier or the Turkish e-Devlet government services system. Holders of accounts created before the document enters into force will be required to verify their age by March 31, 2027.

Australia was the first country to introduce such restrictions: a law banning social media for teenagers under the age of 16 came into effect there in December 2025. Similar restrictions have also been approved by France, the UAE, Indonesia, and other countries.
