Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Gismet Gozalov, held a meeting with Gahryman Rozyev, Deputy Chairman of the Parliament of Turkmenistan, and Annamuhammet Sarjayev, Chairman of the Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group. The parties discussed the current state and prospects for the development of inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries.

It was noted at the meeting that the fraternal relations and strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are successfully developing across various areas, and that the historical, cultural, ethnic, linguistic, and religious ties between the peoples of the two countries form a solid foundation for bilateral relations.

The meeting participants emphasized the significant contribution to strengthening cooperation made by the visit of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, to Turkmenistan in 2025, the visits of the National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to Azerbaijan, as well as high-level contacts. Particular note was made of the significance of the state visit by the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, to Azerbaijan on June 22–23, 2026, during which a joint statement and a number of documents expanding the legal framework for bilateral cooperation were signed.

The parties also highlighted the role of inter-parliamentary contacts in recent years: the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries in Ashgabat in 2022; the meeting between Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova, in July 2025; Sahiba Gafarova’s participation in the Inter-Parliamentary Forum held as part of the Avaza LLDC3 event in 2025 and her meeting with the Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, Dunyagozel Gulmanova; as well as their subsequent meeting in Bukhara on May 14, 2026.

In addition, the parties discussed cooperation between the two countries' parliaments within regional and international parliamentary platforms, as well as agreements on continuing consultations and mutual support. During the meeting, they also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
