Authorities in the Indian capital have significantly stepped up security measures ahead of the BRICS summit, scheduled for September 12–13. Military personnel have been deployed to the city's central streets, police are now directing traffic at busy intersections, and heightened security has been implemented around the diplomatic quarter and the hotels where participating delegations will be staying.

Two days before the event began, the Delhi police issued official guidelines for city residents, urging them to immediately report any suspicious incidents to law enforcement.

"Citizens are urged to remain vigilant in public places, at markets, hotels, metro stations, railway stations, bus stops, and other busy locations," the capital's police said in a statement.

Residents were also advised not to rent out their homes or provide employment to strangers without verifying the relevant documents. Hotel and guesthouse owners, meanwhile, were required to keep strict records of their guests.

In addition, authorities have warned of upcoming road closures in central Delhi during the summit—a measure intended to ensure the unimpeded passage of delegation motorcades to the event venues.
